I tried it all and can't say how nice it is to have solid advice when "customer service" lets you high and dry.Įdit: I marked this best answer only so people can see it if they come across similar problems.Īt this point I think my only option is to try some sort of windows repair, restore or plain re installation. I would almost be upset that this fixed it if I hadn't already spent so much time working on it.Īgain, thanks for everyone's input and advice.

I guess the driver was hanging itself even when not connected to the network because it was awaiting a response from the server? Still a little confused by the whole ordeal but now that its fixed I can sit down and understand it. However, every time I have seen it, the problem was fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling printers and drivers. It had originally started out as the print preview dialogue freezing completely when he selected the printer, which isn't a new problem.

We have always had it disabled and I am still not sure how this fix worked but I basically enabled the option on the print server, re-added it to his local computer, and I can print for days. I finally got it fixed.Īpparently the driver can have bi directional communication disabled or enabled.

Usually Dell support is pretty good but this wasn't a flop, it was miserable fail.Īt this point I think my only option is to try some sort of windows repair, restore or plain re installation.Īn update to all involved in this post. But she was adamant, and maybe I was wrong but I eventually just gave up. I can understand that, but this is a driver removal issue. She then told me that there is no one there that supports network printing. If the printer doesn't have a program in programs and features it isn't installed. To add another clown to the circus I spent over an hour with dell support, trying to remove a driver, she explained to me 4 or 5 times that you need a program to print to a printer. Reasonably so too I might add, its a printer driver. I have fought this issue tooth and nail the last four days and the user is getting frustrated. I have tried disconnecting from the network and restarting, restarting the print spooler, removing the driver with the printer added, without it added, updating windows (long shot I know, but worth a try), other driver updates including chipset and bios, I even signed in with my admin credentials. I can actually go the whole way through the process and click delete, then it stops me with an error message, printer driver is in use unable to delete. I open printers and drivers, select a printer, click print server management at the top and go through the same process that worked with all the other workstations. However, I came across a driver I can't get rid of.

I found a simple uninstall and reinstall of the printers and drivers fixed the problem. A couple weeks ago we began running into a number of errors on peoples printers. I can't remove it for the life of me.īasically it is a Zebra mobile printer on a truck in our parking lot, its connected via wifi and shared from our main server. I am having issues with a network printer driver.
